Dragonette – World Pride 2014, Toronto

I will say off the bat that synth pop is not my go-to genre when it comes to tuning the dial. I don’t dislike the genre by any means but one of the things I love most about my choice of music at any time is the personality and driving force behind the songs. Who writes them, performs them, produces them and can they be performed live?

It’s a genre that, again, in my opinion, tends to be somewhat faceless and hook driven.

I’m very happy to say I was pleasantly surprised catching Dragonette at the 2014 World Pride stage. The creators behind infectiously catchy radio hits such as “Hello” and “Let It Go” put on one hell of a show and leave their personal stamp all over the stage. Lead singer Martina Sorbara is an endless bundle of energy and sensuality with a crystal clear voice that does not disappoint live.
